Lürssen and Rolls-Royce have announced a strengthened collaboration focused on yacht refits. The two companies have signed a framework agreement that outlines their cooperation in overhauling mtu propulsion systems, aiming to enhance service for yacht customers.
Lürssen, known for constructing many of the world’s largest yachts, frequently equips its vessels with mtu propulsion systems from Rolls-Royce. In addition to building new yachts, Lürssen provides its clients with extensive refit solutions, including overhaul, modernization, and conversion services for yachts nearly 200 meters in length. Refits may be required during scheduled dry docking or when a new owner desires changes to the yacht’s interior. Furthermore, refitting offers the chance to upgrade the propulsion system with cutting-edge technologies for sustainable operation, contributing to the energy transition in the maritime sector.
For many years, skilled technicians from Rolls-Royce and experts from Lürssen Yacht Refit & Services have successfully collaborated on the maintenance of mtu propulsion systems, ranging from the engines to the mtu NautIQ ship automation system. The newly established agreement reorganizes this partnership, streamlining processes, simplifying procedures, and setting common standards. This initiative is expected to significantly reduce the time needed for engine and propulsion system overhauls, primarily involving mtu Series 4000 engines.
The framework agreement also facilitates quicker and more flexible deployment of Rolls-Royce specialists at the shipyard and enhances the availability of spare parts. Additionally, Lürssen technicians will receive specialized training to perform specific tasks on mtu engines in accordance with Rolls-Royce standards. Through this collaboration, both companies aim to expedite the refit process and ensure a timely handover of the vessel to its owner.
