On the occasion of its 12th edition, the Swiss Red Cross Ball paid tribute to Turkey. On June 8, 2013 at the Arena in Geneva, the evening was themed to “Dreams of the Bosphorus”.
2013 is the year of the 150th anniversary of the Red Cross, year of the 12th Swiss Red Cross Ball, and year that the Swiss Red Cross on the national level and on the Geneva cantonal level organized the Swiss Red Cross Ball for the first time together. They thereby demonstrated commitment to strengthening their unity in humanitarian works.
The prestigious charity gala counted on the support of the main sponsors Hôtel Beau- Rivage in Geneva, Guaranty Trust Bank, Jaeger-LeCoultre watches, Chopard jewelers, Turkish Airlines and Ultramar Istanbul, the exclusive distributors of Riva-Yacht for Turkey.
Riva as one of the donors of the night presented “the Riva Experience” as the auction prize where as Officina Italiana Design donated one of the most famous contemporary Italian photographers of the world Gabriele Basilico’s photograph from his project with the Riva Shipyard.
The night started with the speech of the night’s honorary chairperson Mrs. Demet Sabancı Cetindoğan, one of Turkey’s leading businesswomen, and continued with two of the greatest stars of contemporary Turkish music: Burhan Öçal, singer, percussionist and actor, winner of several music prizes, who spent an important part of his artistic career in Switzerland and has collaborated with the greatest names in contemporary jazz; as well as Mustafa Sandal, pop singer, composer and one of the most popular producers in Turkey with 15 million recordings sold, who was educated in Geneva and has also launched into an acting career. The two artists together musically represent the best that the City of the Bosphorus has to offer.
The renowned fashion designer Dilek Hanif, combining tradition and innovation to ideally express the style of modern Turkey, came from Istanbul to present her latest creations, ornamented by jewels from Chopard. The gala evening drew to a close to the sounds of Salih Saka, one of the most popular DJs in Istanbul and abroad.
The Swiss Red Cross Ball’s goal is to raise funds to support aid programs for the “Victims of Forgotten Disasters”, as well as for needy persons in the Canton of Geneva. Since the first Ball was launched in 2002, over 7 million Swiss francs have been raised. The funds gathered on the occasion of the 2013 Ball will be dedicated to relief projects in Moldova, Paraguay, Swaziland, Lebanon and Laos. A portion will also be applied to programs of the Geneva Red Cross helping isolated elderly persons.
